Inheritage
The Client
The Inheritage Project, created by Alisha Sadikot, offers guided walks and other activities that engage with the city's history, streets, museums, art, and heritage. The project aims to reintroduce citizens to their city and initiate deeper, more critical conversations about the city space
One of the Inheritage Project’s key offerings is the “Walkshop” - where Alisha guides history enthusiasts as they research and develop their own highly-individualised walking tours of Mumbai. These are then showcased in a special walks festival titled “Lead the Way”.
The Brief
Alisha approached WR to design a digital poster for the first edition of her Walkshop. After a conversation with her about her plans for the walkshop and its potential growth, it quickly became evident that this project needed more than just a single post; it required a thoughtful branding exercise to develop a unique illustrative brand language for both the Walkshop and Walksfest.
The Thinking
The Metaphor
Each of us has an irreplicable relationship with the city, shaped by our personalities, passions, and experiences. For the walk leaders, the 'walkshop' aimed to tap into this relationship, inspiring them to design walks that provide a distinct perspective on the city and its stories.
The fingerprint stood out as the perfect metaphor, unique to each holder, its looping whorls mimicking the winding flow of the city street - the stage where all these stories would play out.
The Visual Approach
Keeping in mind the fact that the walks would cover a range of themes over the coming years,it was essential that the illustration style be adaptive and flexible. Taking off from the fingerprint, a looping, linear style was developed for the illustrations. The colour palette was kept minimal and clean, limited to 3 colours and changing per season to allow the viewer to easily recognise the new walks and schedules.
